Glazebrooke Academic

KG-Primary

The Glazebrooke KG block is located in it’s own unique building on campus. Six large classrooms, flooded with light through plentiful windows, are home to LKG and UKG children. Safe, spacious play and activity areas surround the building; the classrooms have direct access to their own fenced garden and play area, which provides a safe, enclosed multi activity space for our younger pupils. Our early years education consists of children enrolled from the age of 3 in LKG and UKG before they transition to Primary School at the age of 5yrs.

The Primary block houses children from the age of 5-10yrs, covering classes 1-5 standards. This building is located adjacent to the KG block built over two floors with large, well-ventilated classrooms. The children have access to shared play facilities within the campus along with the senior school.

Senior School – Higher Secondary

Our Senior School houses children from the age of 11-15yrs and the Higher Secondary houses our school leaver’s aged 16-17yrs, covering classes 6-12th standards. The senior school and higher secondary children share one large building over three floors.  The classrooms are large, spacious built with a central atrium that allows a view of the open sky arranged with small shrubs to bring the outdoors in.

Curriculum

KG – Primary

We are currently making improvements to our KG curriculum bringing things in line with the principles set out in the National Education Policy 2020. Our focus is to:

  • Provide a safe, engaging and nurturing environment for the child
  • Promote trust in themselves and their world
  • Develop confidence in their emerging abilities
  • Develop gross motor coordination, fine motor skills, and language skills
  • Offer opportunities to gain independence in daily tasks

We will be achieving this through a combination of traditional classroom teaching and a huge emphasis on learning through play.

Primary age pupils are taught the samacheer kalvi syllabus where textbook knowledge is complimented with practical work. The curriculum will focus on strengthening the children’s confidence in literacy, numeracy and Tamil language basics. A strong foundation of learning through understanding the concepts is our focus for learners in this age group.

Senior and Higher Secondary - From the ages of 11+ the children’s learning will stay focused on the samacheer kalvi curriculum offering a range of opportunities to learn through teacher led teaching, group learning and learning through focussed practical tasks to help learners understand the concepts that they are being taught.

We offer a choice of Science and Commerce subjects for our higher secondary pupils and we are working towards introducing humanities subjects soon.

Additional Support Needs

This last year the school has been busy creating an additional support needs team. The aim is to develop and support a pupil’s learning wherever a need is encountered or any barrier to learning is identified.

Our teachers are undergoing training to identify children who may need extra support to aid in their learning. We are getting help by accessing courses on learning difficulties and hiring specialists in this field to help access students who have learning difficulties.

Our support for learning teachers support our children’s learning and development with advice to colleagues, in-class support, team teaching, small group tuition and tailor-made individual programmes. This will include regular contact with parents once a learning need is identified to help them understand what difficulties children are facing and how to help overcome them.  This will also include providing support during key transitional phases, including accessing the National Open School Curriculum where needed.
