About Glazebrooke Matriculation School

History

Our Late Founder, Mr. Dwarakanathan Veeriahpillai, laid the foundations for the school in the 1992 with the aim of delivering affordable high quality education that also ensured that children were physically fit and in tune with their physical environment. The non-profit M. K. V. Charitable Trust, created with a generous endowment made by the Founder in the memory of his father Mr. M. K. Veeriahpillai, was used to develop the school in stages.

The school was originally started with play classes and LKG in Fairlands, and then shifted to the current campus in 1994, when it had 87 students, from play class to V Std. Poultry farm sheds on the site were converted into makeshift classrooms, but with all the necessary amenities for education.

The K. G. Block was completed and used to accommodate the K.G classes in June 1995. The much larger Main Block was ready to receive the first batch of X Std students in March 2000. Due to the increase in school strength another block was added between the Main Block and the K. G. Block in the year 2007, and used to accommodate the Primary School.Today the school is fully functioning and equipped to individually house the KG, Primary and Matric/Higher Secondary classes.

Principal’s Message

Dear Glazebrooke Matriculation family,  It is an honour and privilege for me to lead Glazebrooke Matriculation as a Principal. I have loved all the 20 years of my journey as an educator. Starting with a Bachelor degree in Physics and in Education, I have taught various levels from kindergarten to higher secondary.

As your Principal I promise to lead our team of dedicated and talented staff to keep students at the forefront of every decision we make.

We will encourage all our students and teach them life skills. We will teach them to identify and solve the problems they face in their life with confidence.

Our first priority will be to ensure that every child is valued and cared for.

Our campus

The school is nestled in Nagarmalai Adivaram, at the foot of the four peaks of the Nagaramalai Hills. It was built on farming land, which also housed a poultry farm. Today the school is spread onto large grounds surrounded by trees. The Founder’s love for farming can still be seen in the large number of native trees that provide the backdrop for the school buildings.

The sprawling campus is set out in 13 acres of land, thereby giving staff and students respite from the hustle and bustle of every day city life. We have large sports grounds to allow for various sports, including football, cricket, basketball and netball. Children and Staff have the opportunity to make use of the grounds for their health and wellbeing. All our facilities are within easy walking distance, therefore making it handy for everyone in the school.

Our people

We currently have just under a 1000 pupils, 53 teaching faculty and 13 non-teaching faculty. Our Secretary and Chief Financial Officer Mr. Balasubramanium manages the Finance Office with a small team of people.

The Transport team brings children to school from all over Salem every day. We have a fleet of 23 buses with 21 drivers and 22 conductors, all managed by Mr. Murugeshan, who is our transport coordinator.

Our school Foreman, Mr. Raju, manages our school grounds in keeping with the vision of our Founder, maintaining the flora and fauna that is native to this corner of Salem.

Health and well being

Our values ‘Be Kind’, ‘Work Hard’ and ‘Get Involved’, were at the heart of our Founder’s vision. Today we are pushing to embed this in all the work that we do with our children and our staff.

We recognise that, in order for every young person to succeed to the best of their abilities, they must do so in a caring and secure environment; one which will encourage them to develop self-confidence and social skills, one where the relationship between all members of the community is based on trust and respect. In order to foster this trusting relationship we are working to create an environment where staff are strongly encouraged to promote learning through trust and respect. And by doing this they will have an overview of each child’s social, emotional and academic development.
